He has been focusing primarily on the 20th–century history of the Far East, Czechoslovak foreign trade and armament production in inter-war Czechoslovakia. In 2004, he defended his dissertation. In June 2009, the Rector of Charles University appointed him an Associate Professor in the economic and social history. In 2010, he became a recipient of the Award of the Rector of the Prague University of Economics and Business for a Prestigious Publication for his publication titled Czechoslovak Export to China, 1918-1992. He has served as the Chair of the Department of Economic History since December 2012. From 2013, he has been Director of the Centre for History, Prague University of Economics and Business. In March 2014, the President of the Czech Republic appointed him a Professor in the economic and social history.
